Project Overview

This initiative addresses the critical and immediate winter needs of families in Theme Part View Society, Lahore, Pakistan, who have been displaced and severely affected by recent catastrophic flooding. The project will provide a “Winter Survival Kit” to the most vulnerable households, focusing on women-led families and the elderly. Each kit includes a high-quality quilt, a portable bed (or charpai), a one-month ration pack of staple foods, and a sewing machine. The sewing machine serves a dual purpose: providing an immediate tool for repairing clothing and shelter materials, and establishing a foundation for a sustainable livelihood through tailoring, offering long-term economic resilience beyond the initial crisis.

Project Impact

The primary beneficiaries are 20 of the most vulnerable families (approximately 140 individuals, assuming 7 members per family) in the flood-affected area Theme Park View Society, near Lahore.

Priority will be given to:

  • Female-headed households.
  • Families with children under 5 or elderly members above 65.
  • Households that have lost their primary source of income due to the floods.

Success Factors

  1. Community Service: Measurable improvement in the immediate well-being of families, evidenced by the successful distribution and use of Winter Survival Kits, leading to increased warmth and food security during the winter months.

  2. Community Empowerment: Empowerment of recipients through the provision of tools for self-sufficiency. Success will be measured by post-distribution surveys showing that a significant majority (target: 70%+) of sewing machine recipients are using them for household repairs or to generate income within 3 months.

  3. International Service: The successful execution of the project through a strong, transparent, and collaborative partnership with International members of the eClub in Lahore, signifying and strengthening international bonds and demonstrating eClub’s action across borders.

  4. Youth Service: Engage Interact or Rotaract clubs or young people outside of Rotary, friends of Rotary, in Lahore in the packing, distribution, or monitoring process, providing a platform for youth leadership and involvement in humanitarian aid.
