This project is providing funding for young Mayan women to learn to read and write Spanish, the Guatemalan national language. Only 10% of indigenous girls in this region of Guatemala graduate from primary school and they only learn the indigenous Mayan language. This is a major handicap to their prospects for further education. Let’s Leave No Girl Behind provides funding that gives these young women a chance at literacy so that they may break the cycle of poverty. In addition, we also provide solar lighting so that they can continue their studies in their home at night. This project is in partnership with Adopt A Village, Guatemala and The Rotary eClub of the State of Jefferson.
