The Navajo Nation is about the size of West Virginia. It covers parts of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. And, there are over 15,000 people living there who have no electricity.
Now, thanks to volunteers from Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona, 17 more families have light. This was the outcome of three days of intense effort by 10 people in Rotary Service.
The group met in Gallup, New Mexico for the drive to Arizona.
The October 2019, installation was based in White Cone, AZ and reached out into remote parts of surrounding chapters. It was a challenge to get to these residences and many offered their own challenges in terms of how and where to place the solar panels and do so in a secure, efficient, and safe manner.
Roger Allen and Molly McCallum joined us representing our club and brought along Molly’s brother Tom and partner Kathy. Of course, Joe Williams was present along with Nancy Dosdall from the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club. During the installation, Joe made an onsite live video presentation to his District Conference and extolled to the hands on nature of our eClub as an active partner in this project.
While on site, a teacher from the Noble & Greenough School visited for an afternoon. This is an old and established prep school in the Boston area. They will be bringing out about ten students to participate in our installations and wanted to visit ahead of time to see what we do. This will actually be the third visit by representatives of this school to one of our installations.
I would like to offer my appreciation and gratitude to Sam Kent and his Rotary Club of The Caldwells, NJ for their support. The club donated $1,050 and Sam personally matched that gift. Thanks also to Roger Allen for his gift of $100.00. These gifts ensure that these efforts will continue.
I am looking forward to planning for future installations as we light the dark for these people in need.
