Welcome to this week’s meeting of the eClub of the State of Jefferson.

I am Bob Gibson. I am honored to be in the position of Interim President again.

We have had discussions and debates on the amendments to our Club Constitution and Bylaws. Most of the time these documents set in the background and are not foremost on our mind. They become important when we are looking for policy guidance. At our member meeting on April 1, we discussed the proposed amendments. The Board had already voted to approve both the Constitution and the Bylaws. After the discussion, the membership voted to approve the Constitution and not approve the Bylaws. So, we will review the notes from the April 1 meeting and create a path forward. The Bylaws have important policy implications. I will keep you updated on the progress.

The Board is also working on nominations for next year’s leadership. The slate of officers will be presented to you after the next Board meeting.

On another note, I encourage you to consider attending the District Conference. DG Gerry has a great celebration planned for April 28, 29, and 30. Details are on the District 5110 website.

The war being conducted in Ukraine is having an unimaginable impact on so many people. Rotary has responded. This is from DG Gerry’s message on the District 5110 website: “The Rotary Foundation Trustees have decided to prioritize contributions made to the Disaster Response Fund until 30 April 2022 to support disaster response grants for districts affected by these events. These expedited disaster response grants can be used to supply water, food, medicine, shelter, and clothing.

Half a million people have fled Ukraine and are in dire need of emergency aid. The United Nations estimates that number of refugees could grow to as many as 5 million people displaced. Rotary clubs in Europe and around the world have stepped up their relief work, some working on the ground to help displaced families.

With your donation to our Disaster Response Fund, we can support communities and help rebuild lives during this tragic time.

If you have any questions or comments, I am available. My e-mail address is: bob@bluewaterphoto.net.

Enjoy the meeting.

April is Maternal & Child Health Month

04 April Maternal and Child Health

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented.

How Rotary makes help happen

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

Polio

2022 polioJoin with Rotary to promote the power of vaccines to protect children and save lives.

During World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, let’s advocate for polio eradication and the importance of vaccines to the health and well-being of our communities.

Vaccines are one of the greatest advances of modern medicine. They’re safe, effective, and save millions of lives each year. Our progress in the fight to end polio is proof that vaccines work.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative estimates that the polio vaccine has saved more than 20 million children around the world from paralysis. We need to continue vaccinating children against polio, because as long as the poliovirus circulates anywhere, it is a threat everywhere.

Here’s how you can support Rotary’s efforts during World Immunization Week:

  • Use the World Immunization Week Toolkitfor graphics and sample posts to share on social media with the hashtags #EndPolio and #VaccinesWork.
  • Donate to PolioPlus to help Rotary and our partners deliver polio vaccines to vulnerable children. Or start an online fundraiser using Raise for Rotary and share it with your friends, colleagues, and family members. All contributions will be matched 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Rotary districts can give District Designated Funds (DDF) to PolioPlus to help meet our goal of raising $50 million each year to eradicate polio.
