Welcome to this week’s meeting of the eClub of the State of Jefferson.
I am Bob Gibson, President of the Rotary eClub of State of Jefferson. Welcome to this week’s meeting. I hope this finds you well and enjoying the transition into the autumn.
In past messages, I have talked about my vision of Rotary. At the most basic level, Rotary provides us with an extraordinary opportunity for service. I talk about Rotary being a house with many rooms. As Rotarians, we find the room that best meets our expectations, e.g., International Service, Exchange Programs, Rotary Peace Centers, and PolioPlus. And there are many other “rooms” in this house. When we discover our Rotary passion, we then find the tools that Rotary provides to see our idea become reality.
Recently, we have had a perfect example of this in our Club. Past-President Jean Hamilton identified a need within our Chinle Literacy Project. Working with past-member John Allman, she wrote a proposal for a District Action Grant for $500. This will be used to purchase a satellite dish to provide internet connection for the children of the Navajo Nation. While we often take digital communication for granted, this will be a significant element of the Chinle project. Jean found the tools, made the connection, and made this happen. This is what Rotary is about. My heartfelt thanks to Past-President Jean.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Zoom member meeting on Thursday, September 29. I felt we had a good discussion of what makes our Club unique and what role we can play in District 5110. We discussed the assets of flexibility, economics, and retaining Rotary memberships. There was concurrence that we should do more to market our Club within the District. While we shouldn’t try to draw members away from traditional clubs, we can offer an alternative to someone considering leaving Rotary for scheduling, travel, or economics. There is more to be done with this subject.
Thank you for your interest in our Club and your commitment to “Service above Self.”
Enjoy the meeting.
