SoJ Board Meet
Thu, Oct 21, 2021
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM (PDT)
Welcome to this week’s meeting of the E-Club of Jefferson. I am Bob Gibson. As you are aware, Past President Jean, Past President Jackie, President Elect DeVere, and myself are sharing the duties this year. While not routine, it is a great example of how Rotary can adapt to changes and challenges.
This week, I want to bring up the topic of “leadership” in Rotary. We are getting close to the time of year that we select the Club leadership for coming years. The Nominating Committee will open nominations in November and present those nominees to the membership for election in December. It is an opportunity that can have many benefits. Serving our Club in a leadership role provides a unique opportunity to experience and learn about how Rotary works. More importantly, it provides insight into why Rotary is successful. And I believe Rotary’s success is not accidental. I will discuss what I believe are those attributes in future meetings.
Congratulations if you find yourself considering throwing your hat in the ring for President of our Club! There is no more direct way to serve the Club. You will have the support of the Board and our membership. The training provided at PETS (President-Elect Training Seminar) is a comprehensive immersion into the world of Rotary. The seminars, classes, and meetings are designed to provide you with the tools and relationships to make your year successful. Rotary International provides an extensive toolbox to assist you. In addition, The E-Club of Jefferson is unique. We have an extraordinary number of Past District Governors combined with members having incredible district and club leadership experience. There is no shortage of resources to call on for assistance. That said, everyone who has been in the Club President’s chair understands the importance of allowing the President to have “their” year. Please give this some consideration. It truly is a great experience.
Board positions allow you to experience the mechanics of the Club. The monthly meetings handle the business of the Club. The Board provides an opportunity for the coordination of committees, budget and project work. It is necessary and important work. The Club’s success depends on active and thoughtful decisions. Our Club has a strong legacy of successful project work. I will discuss my approach to projects in future meetings. If you have an interest in becoming involved on the Board, please let me know.
My comments this week are a call to action. I hope some of you are motivated to pursue a role in Club leadership. I will continue to use this platform, over the next three months, to communicate critical calls for decisions and action for our Club. It is an honor to be in this position. If you have any questions or comments, I am available.
My e-mail address is: bob@bluewaterphoto.net.
Enjoy the meeting.
